Grantara Duchess "Duchess"

Duchess @ 9 weeks

Duchess @ 5 months

Our beloved "Mishka"
(1987-1996)

Also known as "Slish", she was purebred with no papers and loved the whole world. Her greatest delight was new puppies. She was instantly their "mother". Everybody's friend and she managed to convert my mother from the "farmer's wife" who used to say, 'Alastians are sheep killers and biters', to German Shepherd lover. She would spend time in my mother's lounge room in front of the heater babysitting "Mouse" a Chihuahua, of somewhat dubious origins. She even stayed with my mother when we went on holidays or long trips. "Mishka" came to live with us in 1987 and left us in October 1996.

Kieffa @ 11 months
We were looking for another German Shepherd and decided we would like to get into showing, but were not quite sure how to go about it all. While reading the positions vacant in our local newspaper, we found an advertisement for a litter of German Shepherd puppies that should have been in the pets column. We considered this to be some sort of omen and contacted the breeder. We made an appointment and one week later we went to see a litter of 13 wonderful puppies at 4 weeks old. We told the breeder we wanted to show and were told that the pick bitches were already spoken for, but there were two sable males that might be suitable. We were introduced to the owners of the sire and other club members who helped us make a video and along with their help as well as the help of Roger and Helen Lette we chose our puppy. On the 23rd January 1992 "Kieffa" came home to live with us. It started us off on what was to become a German Shepherd addiction. "Kieffa" was our absolute joy. He never got into any mischief, he never wrecked anything and he never chewed anything. His two greatest joys was "Git Diddy" a game he loved to play with Garry and to go on the back seat of the bus he thought he owned. He gave us the greatest pleasures and the greatest joy and on the 8th of September 1998 "Kieffa" sadly and suddenly passed away in the arms of his loving family.

It is hard to describe our beautiful "Inc". She was always different and always needed a special kind of love. At the time her confirmation was far superior to anything else we had owned and her energy never failed to amaze us. She was Gail's pride and joy and always remained the family's "Incy Pup" and it was with our hearts breaking she went to sleep on the 14th March 1997 as she was too special for this place.

Sire: *Bluemax Wilbur 'A'

Breeder: Mrs. M.L. Stewart
"Cilla" came to live with us as an adult after she decided Garry was hers. "Cilla" was to become our kennel's foundation bitch. She made herself quite at home, always quite content to lay beside the couch and if she wasn't there, you would find her DIGGING. When visitors would come the tail would wag, but she never moved from beside the couch, unless it was to roll over on her back with all four paws in the air, a trait that she passed on to her offspring along with digging. To our visitors she became known as "Dead Dog" as she was always beside the couch. Our family was OK while Garry was at work or out, but when Garry was home no-one else existed and so she became known as Garry's "Silly Cilla". She never left his side. Cilla's greatest delight was being with Garry anywhere, anytime. She had the darkest of eyes and the ability to make your heart melt. Losing "Cilla" was a terrible time for us and we thought long and hard about whether or not we could continue in the Shepherd world and eventually we decided we would continue because we loved the breed so much.

Amarada Aces Are (Sam)
(10.04.98 - 04.02.99)
Sire: *Northrop Ecru Eliminator
Dam: Jaimon Stand Easy 'A'
"Sam" was a sable bitch and litter sister to "Flame" (Our Bitches). Sam loved life and lived it to the fullest. The world was "Sam's" oyster. Sam was Jessica's best friend and hit the ball around with her nose, which got her the nick name "Sammy Seal". She loved to steal slippers and took great pride in creating her own pieces of art. She could run like the wind, but was as gentle as a lamb. She left us far too early.

"Meg" was the only female in her litter and as we had ordered a bitch pup, she was ours. She was definitely a breath of fresh air. She was bold, happy, lively and life was one big game. Jacquie and "Meg" were inseparable, Meg even shared the bed with Jacquie. They played together, went to school together, went to athletics together, trained together and in fact there wasn't much they didn't do together. It took Jacquie a long time to get over losing "Meg" as unfortunately "Meg" left us suddenly and with many questions unanswered.

"Shah" was chosen after we read an ad for his litter in the GSDCA Quarterly Review. As with "Kieffa" Roger and Helen Lette offered to do the honours of choosing a pup for us as the litter was in Victoria and time constraints prevented us from getting there. We then waited for a phone call from Roger and Helen letting us know if there was anything suitable to show and love. Well within three days, thanks to Roger and Helen, "Shah" arrived in Tassie. The instant clown full of energy and a real pleasure to own. "Shah has brought us many joys as well as many victories and he has produced the most beautifully temperamented puppies that have many of his endearing traits (including the ability to sing). Now retired from the show ring, he is our chief puppy sitter. He loves being with the puppies and his last litter was born on the 14.01.03 and can be seen on other pages of our site. The highlight for us was on the 6th August 2000 when "Shah" was shown under Mrs. Fran Farley (Vic) at the age of 8 and was graded excellent.
Comment by the judge at the end of his critique: 'It is a pleasure to judge this dog again, the way he worked today and with his absolutely glorious eye colour he is graded excellent.'
Shah is now with our other angels in heaven.

"Soccer" is from our second litter, a wonderful member of our family and as you can see by his show results, critiques and photos he is quite the looker. His lovely colouration, his absolute masculinity and his beautiful movement, make him a truly noble German Shepherd. He comes from wonderful bloodlines that have produced in the past and will continue to produce well into the future. His mother line has consistently produced here in Tasmania as well as in Victoria and represents years of selective breeding.
It is with great sadness that we had to say to say good bye too soon................

Linebreeding: Vinberg Grey Nina 4-4, Edlenblut Orkan 4-5 and Masuta Piaute 4-5.
Ziggi is medium size with a feminine head and beautiful expression. She has a lively, exhuberent and outgoing character. She has lovely colouration and very good pigmentation. Ziggi has fleeting, effortless movement, firm back and high wither.
Ziggi is definitely her father's daughter. She is happy and when her tail wags, everything wags. She is inquisitive, nosey and if it is mischief, she's there. We are delighted with Ziggi, as she is very much a member of our family. Ziggi spends her long Tassie winter nights on the couch in front of the fire watching tellie with our family.
